10:00 PM PDT on Friday, March 26, 2010Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center in Riverside announced that its March 20 Walk With The Animals raised more than $53,000, which organizers said was a record breaking amount for the 18th edition of the annual event. The walk at Fairmont Park in Riverside drew more than 1,400 people along with 500 dogs, a few pigs, miniature horse, and various other creatures, said the organization. Formerly known as the Riverside Humane Society, the center describes itself as the "largest no-kill pet adoption organization in Riverside County." The top individual pledge collector for the two-mile walk around Lake Evans was Bonnie Kirby of Riverside who raised $2,147. She received a weekend stay for two in a suite at Riverside's Mission Inn along with Sunday brunch. Corona resident Olga Barberi raised $2,000 for second place, earning her Sunday brunch for two at the Mission Inn. The top business/organization "dog pack team" was NaturVet Foundation of Temecula which raised $3,060. For the third year in a row, the top school "dog pack team" was Ramona Elementary School of Moreno Valley which collected $300. |
